Our Commitment to the Environment
|
| |
At ITW Hi-Cone, manufacturing environmentally
friendly carriers is a top priority. Hi-Cone carriers are
engineered to be environmentally safe. In addition, Hi-Cone
actively supports the Ring Leader Recycling Program to encourage
education about the prevention of the damaging effects of
litter on the environment.

Environmentally Friendly Carriers
Hi-Cone ring carriers are engineered to be environmentally
safe. Each Hi-Cone ring carrier is:
|
|
| |
Hi-Cone carriers
are produced from LDPE photodegradable plastic,
which becomes brittle and breaks down into small
pieces in ultraviolet light, such as sunlight. Depending
on the season, carriers may break down as quickly
as three to four weeks. Ring carriers are lighter
than water; therefore, they will float. When exposed
to sunlight while in the water, the carriers degrade
in a marginally longer time frame as those exposed
to sunlight on land. Since there are no by-products
in our carriers, there is nothing to leach out into
the water.
|
 |
|
|
|
| |
An independent testing laboratory found
the photodegradable carrier to be non-toxic. It contains
no heavy metals or toxic additives. As the carriers
degrade, they break down into smaller and smaller pieces
of inert, harmless material.
|
|
|
| |
Hi-Cone promotes the recycling of its carriers to reduce
the amount of natural resources used. Rings may be recycled
by individuals or by participation in the Ring Leader
program.
|
 |
|
| |
Hi-Cone carriers use a very small amount of material
to create ring carriers, lessening waste and resource
consumption. In terms of weight and volume, ring carriers
create less solid waste than other packaging materials
such as cardboard and plastic shrink wraps, making them
the best package alternative available. |

Ring Leader Recycling Program
|
| |
ITW Hi-Cone developed and supports the Ring
Leader Recycling Program to help minimize the damaging
effects of litter on the environment. The program, designed
for both formal and informal educational venues, implements
the "Three R's" process of Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle with
the use of Hi-Cone carriers. |
| |
Participants in the program collect ring
carriers and ship them back to ITW Hi-Cone. The ring carriers
are used in both open and closed loop recycling. This
helps reduce litter and waste in our landfills, as well
as the amount of natural resources needed to create ring
carriers. |
 |
| |
Currently, over 12,000 schools in the United
States, the U.K., Ireland, and Spain are helping save the
environment by participating in the Ring Leader Recycling
Program. Please visit www.ringleader.com
for more information about how you can participate.
