In July, the brewer
announced it was switching to Hi-Cone’s
BrandPak. Owner
Max Pigman said:
“We
know our customers will appreciate the environmental benefits of the new
package. It is a minimal design that generates less waste than traditional
paperboard carriers.”
The West Yellowstone
News pointed out that BrandPak is “environmentally
friendly” and the package represents a new way to assemble, display
and carry around a six-pack of bottled beer. “They (Hi-Cone carriers)
are made of photo-degradable plastic which becomes brittle and breaks
down into small pieces in sunlight,” the newspaper reported. Also,
the article mentioned the package is ideal for those who love the outdoors.
“You can just plop them down in a stream to keep the beer cold,
or skiers can put them in snow. These carriers will hold together where
cardboard carriers won’t.”
In its coverage, the Helena Independent Record reported that
one local retailer was skeptical of the new package design, but quickly
became a believer. “I’ve never seen anything like it and I
was leery, but it looks like its going to be pretty good,” he said.
“It’s different and people like things that are different.”
